Pondering the (Immediate) Future

It’s 5 P.M. Already today, I’ve cleaned the apartment—except for the office, which is an explosion of cables and wires—gone for a bicycle ride with a neighborhood friend,1 and then walked around the book fair a bit.2 Now I have to decide how to spend the rest of the evening, lest I waste it.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to text around and see if anyone wants to socialize—watch a movie or something. Or I could clean the office and get the file server set up and running.3 I might just wander down into the studio and spend the night drinking whiskey and listening to music while I try to paint.4 I feel like that’s what I really want to do.

But first I’m making spaghetti sauce. I have two cans of whole San Marzano tomatoes along with a bunch of fresh basil. The basil will turn if I don’t use it right away. I better get cooking.

Footnotes

  1. I think we rode at least a couple of miles. I’m not nearly as sore as from my previous rides a week or two ago. I may finally have my bike saddle adjusted about right. Not quite there, but very close. ↩

  2. It’s weird to throw an event that relies on bookish sorts to come out and socialize in numbers, but good on them for trying. ↩

  3. I’m trying to run an old Mac mini as a NAS file server. You’d think that would be easy, but the Mac mini is fussy. I’ve had two of them over the years, and both were the worst computers I’ve ever owned. I don’t know why I ever bought the second. ↩

  4. I don’t actually need to drink alcohol to work on art. Art makes the drinking more fun. ↩
