The Masculine Ordinal Indicator

The dark circles beneath my itchy, itchy eyes tell me spring is in the air.1 It’s gray and drizzling—my favorite. We’re expecting 12ºC by afternoon. Daffodil and tulip leaves are springing up all over the garden patch out front.2 Birdsong chirps from every direction. I even saw some ducks doing it down by the river. I now feel compelled to clean the apartment and tidy up the yard a bit. An ancient instinct ingrained in our species eons ago, long before the dawn of the vacuum cleaner.

  2. I will do something with that space this year. I didn’t have time to think about gardens and such things when I was moving in last spring. ↩
