We Can’t All Be Monks
Today I read an interview with the famous Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh wherein it was mentioned he hadn’t used a telephone in 25 years. Twenty-five years! As a long time netizen, the very idea of such technological disconnection struck me as astoundingly freeing. As an information technology worker, such abstinence would be unworkable. However, I would definitely do well to use the internet a bit less—if only for the sake of my eyes. I plan to otherwise lay low from the tubes for a day or two.
