Evenings as of Late

Iโve started riding my bike again. Maybe. Itโs only been a couple of nights so far, but last evening I rode 1.65 miles, and tonight I got in 2.98 miles. I enjoy riding in the dark of night.1 Itโs a serene loneliness.
Tomorrow I will try for 4 or 5 miles. Iโm learning to pace myself and ride slowly at 7 or 8 miles per hour on flat ground, while dropping into low gear and taking my time getting up hills.
I need to get into some kind of condition. Not so long ago, I rode 12 miles in the afternoon sun during a heatwave and spent the rest of the week too stiff to do much of anything, let alone ride a bicycle.
Iโd like to reach a point where I can handle 50- to 100-mile rides. A half-century is certainly attainable by summer. Such distances will require discipline. And a good saddle.
At my age, I canโt race along the road at top speed or power my way up hills without wearing out halfway through the trip. And no matter how exhausted I may become, I still have to get home somehow.
