A Walk to the Musuem

I walked from 4th and South to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on a lark. Once there I happened upon a members only preview of the new exhibit: Embracing the Contemporary: The Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Collection. I’m not sure this will be one of the museum’s major exhibits in the history of my recollection, but I enjoyed it.

I especially liked the collection of Jasper Johns works on display, along with a Robert Ryman red painting. There are many new pieces in the regular modern art halls too. They include a nice Anselm Kiefer, a few good Richter’s, and a Richard Serra painting called Double Rift IV, which may well be my new favorite painting.

After walking around the museum for a couple of hours and taking in all the works from various regions and eras my brain could handle, I hiked back down to 4th and South for another iced decaf. There are plenty of good places along the way, but I like the walk. Of course, now my feet are aching and exhausted. The rest of me is running low on energy too. I had planned to spend the night drinking too much whiskey and writing a long blog post about politics or something awful like that. Instead, I’m going to wash a huge stack of dirty dishes, drink one or two beers, and fall asleep on the couch watching TV.
