Escapism Velocity

Today, I swept my apartment, which needs doing daily because the winter road salt gets everywhere. Next, I went to the Acme around the corner to buy paper towels. Don’t bother attempting to guilt-trip me about paper towels. I then punched the clock and put in an honest day’s work, trying to record and share everything useful I’ve learned about Grafana Loki. After months of study, I know practically nothing but could easily fill two books on the subject.1 I went out for coffee…twice. I should cut back. I watered a bunch of my houseplants. They’re thirsty sons of branches. I searched around online and found a place in Pennsylvania from which I ordered Japanese-made nail clippers and a made-in-USA EDC knife.2 I then went for a two-mile walk, which sounds like exercising, but for me, it was just “a little past Broad and back.” I’m now nursing a stovepipe can of Golden Monkey,3 listening to music, and writing a blog post nobody will read. It’s not even 7:00 p.m.
Granted, it’s only been a few weeks, but I think it’s safe to say that unassing yourself from social media4 and the 24-hour news cycle gets you a whole lot of your life back. But aren’t we all about to die in a global conflagration of authoritarian bloodshed and eco-collapse? Probably. But that’s all the more reason to take your life back. You know, so you can actually live it for a few minutes.

I liked the way the owner handled himself in the review comments The shop is local enough that I can drop in personally if there is a serious mixup, too. Most importantly, some of my money stays local and isn’t entirely hoovered up by AMZN.CN. ↩

Apparently, that’s 3.04 standard drinks in single can! It doesn’t feel like it. Regardless, I’ve cut way back on the booze. I’m trying to reduce inflammation, at least until I get my 25-hydroxy up. And I’m at total war with these last ten pounds I’m trying to lose. ↩
