NO 25-OH, YO

Reviewed my lab results over lunch. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar and dill pickle slices on a day-old brioche bun; my doctor ordered bloodwork. I learned my vitamin D levels are not merely low or insufficient but categorically deficient. It’s a good thing I’m too old for rickets.
The cardiologist recommends increasing my intake of foods rich in vitamin D. I’ve already switched from regular coffee with “cream”1 to lattes for the added dairy. Every little bit helps, right? No matter, I have to take megadose vitamins for several months, too. This is the standard evidence-based treatment, despite every know-nothing-know-it-all2 gleefully telling us supplements are a waste of money, ad nauseam, for years.

It’s never cream. If you’re lucky, you might get half-and-half, but most coffee shops palm off milk for cream, as if we can’t tell the difference. We can. ↩

I ignore whatever Adam Conover and John Stossel say about anything at this stage of my life. I haven’t heard much from either of them in quite a while, so I suppose everyone else does, too. ↩
