Sowing Seeds a Sundry

I sprinkled a thousand or so seeds around the side of the house today (as planned). Lavender, lots of wildflower mix, some kind of herbs, and a little spearmint.

People will tell you not to plant mint directly in the ground because it will overgrow the garden, but I haven’t found that to be the case here in New Jersey. And if the mint somehow manages to out-compete the English Ivy and Virginia Creeper getting everywhere, so much the better.

Odds are high the birds will eat most of the seeds before they have a chance to sprout, anyway. The Juncos, in particular, are very thorough in their foraging.

A sizable thunderstorm is likely to pass through this evening as well. That will safely bury the seeds where nosy little beaks are unlikely to notice them, or else wash them all down the driveway to the street and into the sewers.

Either scenario is fine. I have plenty of seeds in reserve and more on the way.

I’m hoping to get some good photos of butterflies and bees this summer. As much as I like the birds, I’ve grown weary of them as subjects for my photography.
