I Do It Clean

I’m two weeks into six months of no social media. I have not become the exemplar of personal productivity you may have expected. However, I did manage to go for a morning photo walk, experiment with DeepSeek AI, clean my entire apartment (except for the bathtub), visit with family for lunch, followed by another moderately long walk, wash and fold a load of laundry, and change my bedsheets. Now, I’m exhausted. Those fresh linens are calling out to me. They’re heavy flannel!

Bed’ll have to wait. It’s only eight o’clock, which is far too early to call it a night. No, I have to remain conscious for at least another hour and a half, but no more than two hours. There’s a science to it. Go to bed too early, and I wake at one or two in the “morning”, spend hours trying to get back to sleep, and wind up logy all the next day.1 But if I stay up past ten or ten o’thirty, I risk triggering my insomnia and spending hours trying to even get to sleep in the first place, and, once again, I face a bad morrow. I suppose I’ll relax in the dark and listen to Echo & The Bunnymen over the drone of news helicopters.23

Footnotes

  1. Behold the might of my thesaurus! ↩

  2. The Philadelphia Eagles obliterated the Washington Commanders 55-23 this afternoon. The news helicopters are making life miserable for everyone who lives downtown so they can make money by showing off how excited people are that the home team is headed to the Super Bowl. Annoying, sure, but at least they’re not tearing down Chinatown to build an arena a few blocks from my front door. That’s right, I’m an unapologetic stadium NIMFY. ↩

  3. “Do it Clean” by Echo & the Bunnymen: The entire song is one big reference to doing a whole lot of pure cocaine. ↩
