If a Tree Falls on Your Head, and Nobody’s Around to Hear It, Do You Make a Sound?

I know. I know. I know.1 I haven’t been posting. That’s all part of the blog experience. There isn’t much going on with me lately. It’s winter. It’s been a cold one, too.
I’ve been going for walks around the river and lake, taking plenty of bird pics, which you can see here. I need to switch things up a little soon. I enjoy the birds, but they aren’t my favorite subject for photography. They’re more of a fun challenge that I frequently come across on my little hikes.
It snowed a few inches today. Naturally, I grabbed my most expensive camera gear and headed directly out to the lake to wander around in it. There I saw a tree fall.
It wasn’t anything like when you cut them down. First, nobody yelled, “Timber!” And there was none of that creaking, followed by leaning, then more creaking, more leaning, and so on, the tree gathering speed on its descent, the entire process ending in a dull thud. None of that.
There was a loud crack followed immediately by a boom and an entire tree was on the ground. It happened so fast. There was no dodging it. Fortunately, I was all the way on the other side of the lake. Otherwise, I’d be dead, dead, dead.2
