It was -13ºC outside this morning. My radiators were overwhelmed, and the indoor temperature dropped to 18ºC despite the thermostat set to 23ºC.1 Fortunately, both of my smart IOT humidifiers began leaking over the holidays, so I replaced them with a Wi-Fi-Free unit with heated mist function well before all this Polar Vortex nonsense got started. The heated mist is not at all hot, or even warm, but still manages to make a big difference for the better in keeping the place cozy.

I took the day off from work today because my stomach is out of sorts. Last week, I started mega-dosing vitamin D,2 and ever since, I’ve been in a greater or lesser state of digestive distress. Today, I switched to taking sublingual liquid vitamins. This method is supposed to help prevent stomach upset. The mega-dosing is worth the bellyaches. I’m already feeling benefits in mood elevation and increased energy levels.

Granted, I started mega-dosing vitamin D not too long after I left social media. There’s reason to expect a positive effect on my affect from either or both. Being off social media feels saner with all those anxious and angry voices out of my head. You know, the voices of you and all those other people posting their every fear and annoyance to BlueSkie or wherever, demanding to be heard, even though you’re not saying much, but still demanding, demanding, always, “Hear me! Hear me! I exist, dammit.” Meanwhile, the vitamin D definitely makes a person feel decidedly more … youthful.

If everyone got the hell off the feeds and start boofin’ The D, humanity might have a fighting chance in this sci-fi universe we’ve fallen into. You’ve wired yourselves into software that makes you distracted, anxious, and angry. The good news is it’s remarkably easy to get off the bitsmak—just log off and walk away. That’s all there is to it. Once you stop using, the brain rot will start to clear up in a few days. It really doesn’t take long at all.

Footnotes

  1. I have a single thermostat, located in the hallway, and it is not even a little accurate. Assume 23ºC resolves to maybe 21ºC on a good day. ↩

  2. Lab tests identified that I have a significant vitamin D deficiency, so I’m undergoing a medically supervised regimen to jack my levels up, pronto. You should probably have your D checked, too. They say 50% of the U.S. population has a deficiency. ↩
