The Packening
I meant to start writing a blog post much earlier this evening but got sidetracked experimenting with Windsurf, an AI-powered code editor. Together, Windsurf, and I made sweeping changes across the bulk of the codebase that generates this blog. If everything went as planned, you won’t be able to tell.1 Windsurf is quite good. Far superior to GitHub Copilot.2
Meanwhile, I signed a lease and hired movers to haul my Philly stuff across the bridge to become Jersey stuff on April 21st. My new place is much bigger. It has a porch. And a garage. And a large unfinished basement in which I can paint large, messy canvases without fear of splatters on the floor. I’ll have a backyard with giant trees. We’re talking three, maybe four stories or more in some cases. I’ve already ordered a squirrel-resistant bird feeder.3 And there’s a lake two blocks away. Perhaps I’ll buy a kayak.4 I’ve already ordered a new mattress and adjustable bed frame. The Leesa mattress I’ve hated ever since it first showed up three or four years ago is not coming with me.5
Things will not be perfect. They never are. But I am excited nonetheless. I start packing this place up tomorrow morning. Spiritually speaking, I’ve already moved out and on.

When evaluating AI products like ChatGPT, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, and so on, I prefer to put the premium subscription through its paces right away. Far too many people are profoundly underestimating generative AI’s capabilities based on 20 or 30 minutes of toying around with a free offering. That is a mistake. I assure you current iterations of genAI are highly competent and grow ever more so by the fiscal quarter. ↩
